Breastfeeding is a beautiful journey, but it doesn’t always come easily. Katharine Whetzel, IBCLC, of Rose Moon Birth Services, understands that every breastfeeding dyad is unique, and finding the right support can make all the difference. Whether you’re navigating the early days of feeding, facing challenges along the way, or simply seeking reassurance, Katharine is here to help guide and support you.
Lactation Consultation
As a birth and postpartum doula, Katharine found infant feeding was one of the most common sources of stress and anxiety for new parents. In an effort to better support her clients, she began learning all she could about lactation and infant feeding. Although breastfeeding is natural, it rarely comes naturally. Seeing the direct correlation between infant feeding and maternal mental health really pushed her into the realm of lactation.
As a former special education teacher, supporting families in identifying their own goals and collaborating to create a plan to reach them felt like home to her. Her work focuses on supporting families where the current social systems in place negatively impact their ability to thrive.
Consequently, Katharine decided to continue her studies and become an IBCLC. She had the distinct honor of completing clinical hours under the supervision of two powerhouse IBCLCs, Kate Zachary at Kaiser Sunset and Julie Matheney in her private practice, LA Lactation.
